The high turnover rate of machines these days can make us lose sight of how some of our fondest teen memories go hand-in-hand with analog cameras, (now-)retro cordless phones, mix tapes or rolls of film. With that in mind, one creative couple, namely French designers Zim and Zou, has gone all techie wunderkind on us, with a trip down a memory lane littered with vintage electronics: Nintendo consoles, Polaroids, Floppy disks and the like.





Having just devised a new series of paper-based installations, or rather decoupages-cum-collages, the pair is inviting us to think back, “Back to Basics” as the umbrella title goes, and reflect on an age most of us have lived through – though, “thanks” to fast-evolving technologies, we’re in danger of forgetting.





At the center of Zim and Zou’s effective conceit is a vast array of scraps of colored paper, collaged into all kinds of gadgets and other types of blasts from the past. Here’s a making-of that shows Zim and Zou’s process as they dig up and breathe new, prettified life into the fossils of yore:
