We’ve long established photography is an art form – but who, aside from the professional lensman, knew that cameras may be works of art in themselves, even before snapping a thing? Kurt Mottweiler has the pinhole-camera market cornered and the art buffs scratching their heads in surprise, as the curvaceous designs of his photo devices render the tools of the photographic trade more expo-worthy than tools usually are.

As nothing these days can afford to just be about looking pretty, these limited edition pinholes can be put to good use too. The P.90 is said to snap the hellheavenly out of any scenery, thanks in no small measure to the placement of the pinhole, “located at the geometric center of a curved film plane.” Also, while light-proofing is the least of one’s concerns when setting up surveillance cams, even your average private eye might find these nicely crafted bijou-boxes useful.

Carpenter-extraordinaire Kurt Mottweiler swears by “the curvilinear perspective [of his pinhole cameras, which is] typical of panoramic cameras.” Smoothly wrought out of cherry wood and brass and equipped with a tripod adapter on the bottom, as well as being loaded with a roll of 120 film, this last thing in eye-popping gadgetry only looks, and costs, like a collectable from another time. Truly though, if I had one of these, I could hardly stop myself from staring in awe long enough to actually use it as its creator intended.
